Surface functionalization of microporous carbon fibers by vapor phase methods for CO2 capture

چکیده
The removal of excess CO 2 from the atmosphere is expected to play a major role in mitigation global warming. Solid-state adsorbents, consisting -binding functionalities on porous supports, can provide high capture capacities with low energy requirements. In this contribution, we report vapor-phase functionalization carbon fibers amine functionalities. Functionalization occurs either via direct exposure cyclic azasilane molecules (2,2-dimethoxy-1,6-diaza-2-silacyclooctane) or by atomic layer deposition Al O 3 followed azasilane. XPS analysis and SEM/energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) measurements confirmed functionalization. Yet, two different approaches led loadings distinct differences porosity upon functionalization, which affected capture. Combining resulted fast sorption superior capturing efficiency. contrast, strong reduction surface area support limited gas exchange. We attribute efficiency level achieved when combining demonstrating that approach might be valuable for compact high-throughput air, systems.

Sulfur Impregnation on Activated Carbon Fibers through H2S Oxidation for Vapor Phase Mercury Removal
Sulfur was impregnated onto activated carbon fibers ACFs through H2S oxidation catalyzed by the sorbent surface in a fixed-bed reactor. By changing the temperature and duration of the sulfur impregnation process, ACFs with different sulfur contents were developed. Characterization of ACFs before and after sulfur impregnation was conducted by surface area analysis, energy dispersive X-ray analys...

In a previous work we studied the influence of heat treatment on the molecular sieve properties of activated carbons prepared by chemical activation of lignin [1]. The thermal treatment modified the porous structure of the activated carbons, giving rise to solids that separate C6H6 from C6H12, CO2 from CH4 and O2 from N2 with a relative high selectivity. However, the heat treatment drastically ...
متن کاملDesigned amyloid fibers as materials for selective carbon dioxide capture.
New materials capable of binding carbon dioxide are essential for addressing climate change. Here, we demonstrate that amyloids, self-assembling protein fibers, are effective for selective carbon dioxide capture. Solid-state NMR proves that amyloid fibers containing alkylamine groups reversibly bind carbon dioxide via carbamate formation. Thermodynamic and kinetic capture-and-release tests show...
